The Foundation Synergie Lyon Cancer is dedicated to bringing novel therapeutic and diagnostic products to patients by supporting innovative basic and clinical research focused on the theme of tumour escape of cellular and immune surveillance mechanisms. The research is being pursued at some of the foremost research institutes and clinical centres in France located in the country's second city, Lyon.
The creation of the Foundation Synergie Lyon Cancer stemmed from the desire and the strong commitment of key university, health and corporate institutions in Lyon to unite leading academic and private cancer research teams around a common goal. The foundation’s principal objective is to promote a concerted research effort geared to accelerate the development of innovative therapeutic applications.
The Foundation Synergie Lyon Cancer was created in July 2007 following a competitive national call for proposals. Synergie Lyon Cancer was one of only nine successful proposals nationwide and one of two in the domain of cancer.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The principal aims of the Foundation Synergie Lyon Cancer are the following:
-Develop translational research programmes in an area of broad potential : targeted therapy and tumour escape
-Advance the development of novel therapeutic and diagnostic applications
-Bring together clinical and basic research teams focused on concrete objectives
-Support the growth of the network of clinical and basic research in Lyon through international collaborations and partnerships
The driving force of the Foundation’s strategy is its mission to accelerate the availability of new approaches to help patients and its overriding philosophy is to bring together the competences necessary for the discovery and the development of innovative therapies. Hence, on the one hand, there is a need to unite basic and clinical science and, on the other hand, bring together private and public research efforts.
